6th Grade Orientation

Every year we are eager to meet our incoming 6th graders, and this year is no exception.  Below are some important dates & information. 

  • 6th Grade Orientation.  April 9th, 2024 from 5:30-7:00.  Doors will open at 5:15.  We will have a band and chorus performance in the gym beginning at 5:30.  At 6:00, there will be a presentation by the Principal.  From 6:30-7:00, parents and students can walk around the building.  Any students/parents interested in band, there will be an opportunity to view instruments on April 9th from 5:00-7:00.  Please use the south entrance for this.   

  • Encore Request Form.  Most students in middle school take encore courses (or elective courses) during the day. This is an opportunity to request the encore classes for your 6th grade year. Although we try to accommodate as many requests as possible, we cannot guarantee that students will get all of the courses they want.  The timeline for this process is below.  For core classes, we assign those to students based on MAP scores.  

    • 04/09/24: 2024-25 6th Grade Course Request Sheets mailed home to current 5th graders

    • 04/09/24:  All 5th grade teachers will show video:  5th Grade Presentation for 6th Grade

    • 04/16/24: Completed Course Request Sheets due to 5th grade teachers

    • 04/16/24: BCMS Counselor Visits to Elementary Schools

  • Counselor Visits to Elementary Schools. Between April 16th & 24th, our school counselors will meet with all incoming 6th graders to go over their course selection sheets.  

    • 04/16/24: Perry

    • 04/18/24: Seth Whitman

    • 04/19/24: Meehan

    • 04/23/24: Caledonia

    • 04/23/24: Washington (After Caledonia)

    • 04/24/24: Lincoln

  • 5th Grade student visits to CMS.  On May 2nd & 3rd, all incoming 6th grade students will be bused from their elementary schools to CMS for a building tour during the school day.  This is for students only.  

    • 05/02/24: 9:00-9:30 Perry & Washington

    • 05/02/24: 9:45-10:15 Meehan

    • 05/02/24: 10:30-11:00 Seth Whitman

    • 05/03/24: 9:00-9:30 Caledonia

    • 05/03/24: 9:45-10:15 Lincoln
